PLUS ULTRA CAFE 2017

PLUS ULTRA CAFE 2017

So erm… I should have really posted this earlier (like 3 months ago) but hey, better late than never, right? ^ ^

Went to my first proper anime themed café in Singapore in August 2017 (I’ve  really only ever been to the ones in Japan ^ ^) and I had loads of fun. This was largely due to the awesome company I had (you know who you are 😊).

Having gone for a few anime cafes in Japan, I honestly have to say that this fan based “My Hero Academia” café event in Singapore was a pretty fun one and was definitely on par with those I’ve been to in Japan.  You can see the amount of effort they had put in to giving participants a good experience. Here’s their official facebook page.

Kudos to the good work done by the PLUS ULTRA CAFE SG team!

We chose the earliest slot (11am to 12.20pm) and arrived promptly at the café. Turns out that they had booked the entire interior space of the Cornerstone Cafe for this event.

Registration was smooth and everything was planned pretty well. We were promptly shown to our table (Table 6!)

And our waiter for the day was…

Kirishima Enjiro

Kirishima!!

Yes!! Kirishima is one of my favourite characters in My Hero Academia (MHA) so it was so great that we had “him” assigned to our table! Each table was assigned one of the “heroes-in-training” but you basically can have the other heroes or heroines just wander by your table serving the food and drinks. 🙂

I’ve brought along some of the official MHA merch to take photos. ^ ^

Since we had already pre-ordered our food/drinks/dessert in advance, “Kirishima” started off by asking us if we were interested to play a few games while waiting for our mains to be served. We definitely said “Yes” of course! ^ ^

So the first game was to just pick a card (faced-down) and we got the  You can request for any action with the server, just keep it PG” card. LOL

So  naturally… we just asked for a simple photo 😊 with Bakugou of course 😊

The Bakugou Plushie was from my Crane Games Escapades in Tokyo ^^

Next, we were asked to play some memory game which if we got 3 out of 8 times correct, we’ll get a free sticker of our choice.

Well, we kinda won the game within the first 4 rounds and I think that made our waiter a little flustered because the games seemed to be ending quickly. ^ ^

The last game we were to play was the 黑白配. (Basically it’s rocks, paper, scissors with a twist at the end; the winner of the rocks, paper, scissors round would point to a direction and the loser would have to turn his/her face in an opposite direction. Failing to do so means that the ultimate winner of the round belongs to the winner of the rocks, paper, scissors round) And naturally we won again!! ^ ^

Now for the food.

These were just the mains ^ ^ We still had desserts coming up.

The green tea latte was really good.

We all had the green tea latte!

The Katsu don and Omu rice was pretty much average taste-wise, to be honest. We were kinda expecting it so it wasn’t much of an issue for us.

Deku’s Katsu-Don!

We could request for some writing to be done for Bakugou’s omu-rice 🙂

Remember Bakugou’s initial suggestion for his Hero name? That’s what its supposed to be. ^ ^

After seeing the “struggle” Bakugou was having in writing Kanji with Ketchup, my friend wisely opted for English.

Since there was a time limit to our cafe experience,  we had to have our Desserts quickly~

There’s always room for desserts! No matter how stuffed we were.

Todoroki’s themed dessert was AWESOME! Totally fitting our half-hot half-cold hero. It tasted as good as it looks too! 🙂 I have a video of it being served here.

Alaska Bomb!

The desserts were pretty good and we finished them all up. Wasn’t much of a fan of the strawberry calpis though but it looked pretty.  🙂

And that concludes the end of our Plus Ultra Cafe experience!

Thanks gals for exchanging your coasters with me!! I had really wanted the Kirishima and Bakugou’s one but I got two of the same “All Might” designs. (I like All Might so was happy with them but I didn’t want two of the same designs.)

All in all, a very fun day indeed!

Here’s hoping to see more of such anime themed cafes in Singapore! 🙂

    1. Hi, thanks for leaving a comment. The Plus Ultra Cafe was a once-off pop up fan-event so unfortunately there hasn’t been one for quite a few years. There were however been quite a few MHA anime themed cafes over the years in Japan. Animate Cafe often holds yearly cafe collaboration with MHA, so I recommend to check them out. Hope that helps. PLUS ULTRA!
